Como is the capital of the lake. It preserves important monuments from various periods in its history (in the Civic Museum you can admire pre-Roman exhibits).
There are many things to see, the Dome (Gothic-Renaissance cathedral completed in the 18th century and full of paintings and sculptures), buildings that reflect the architectural style of the twentieth century in particular, including the masterpieces of Terragni, Villa Olmo and Brunate reachable by funicular railway where you can admire, on a day of clear weather, the Alps. Don’t forget to go in the centre for some silk shopping.
