Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 June, the traditional festival of the island begins the summer season on Lake Como.
On Saturday you can participate at the typical outdoor food festival in front of the Isola Comacina or dine in one of the Italian restaurants on Como Lake.
The evening culminates with a spectacular musical Fireworks show and the burning of Isola Comacina.
The historical commemoration of the battle of 1169 between Como, led by Federico Barbarossa, and Milan is a tradition that has been handed down for a long time on Lake Como.
In the past, the inhabitants of the countries facing the Isola Comacina used to turn on the “lumaghitt” (snail shells with oil inside) on the water and along the banks, was then burned a pile of straw and wood placed on a floating raft.
Sunday was, and is, the time of the religious ceremony. The procession in traditional costume reaches the Isola Comacina Lago di Como, aboard barges and boats once today, for the celebration of the Holy Mess on the ruins of the Church of St. Euphemia.
To be involved in this magic atmosphere between past and present you just need to book your short breaks to Lake Como at Residence Celeste.
