Insalata caprese: fresh and popular since 1920

Insalata caprese is an appetiser that originated in the cuisine of Campania, composed of quality ingredients that when put together create a true must of Italian cuisine: tomato, mozzarella, extra virgin olive oil, oregano and fresh basil.

Just think that this recipe was born in Capri in 1920 on the occasion of a dinner organised for the poet Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, founder of the Futurist manifesto.

Preparation: 5 minutes

Difficulty: easy

Quantity: 2 people

  • 4 - 5 tomatoes (salad oxheart quality)

  • 200 g fresh, high-quality buffalo or fior di latte mozzarella

  • fresh basil

  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

  • high quality extra virgin olive oil

  • salt

  • pepper (optional)

  1. Wash, dry the tomatoes and cut them with a fine-bladed knife.

  2. Place the tomatoes on a wooden cutting board and sprinkle with a pinch of salt.

  3. We now slice the mozzarella.

  4. We assemble the dish with the slices of tomato and mozzarella obtained, adding a few leaves of fresh basil.

  5. Finally we sprinkle with a pinch of dried oregano, pepper and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil.

Buon appetito!
