Tremezzina
Lake Como through the seasons
The lake is not the same place twelve months a year, and it is not true that it is only worth visiting in summer. People who come back tend to choose the shoulder seasons: better walking, better light, and villages that feel like villages again.
Spring: blossom and dry trails
This is when the lakeside gardens are at their best: azaleas fill the villa parks with colour and wisteria covers the walls and pergolas of the villages. Walking the lanes of Tremezzina is enough to run into it.
It is also when the trails above the village are in their best condition: the snow has gone from the lower slopes, the days are already long and you are not walking in the heat. Every walk we recommend to guests is comfortable in this season.
Summer: the lake, the pool and the right hours
In summer the lake is lived in the water and outdoors. The panoramic pool is open from April to the end of October, and in this season every apartment, Casa Emy included, has its own assigned spot with a parasol and a sun lounger.
For the famous sights, think in hours rather than days: villas and ferries fill up in the middle of the day, while early morning and late afternoon stay almost quiet.
Autumn: the best walking season
Through September and October the air dries out, the light drops and the lake takes on colours that summer haze hides. This is when the paths above Tremezzina and the Val Perlana give the clearest views.
The villages change pace too: there are tables free, no queues for the boats, and the same streets you walked in August feel like somewhere else.
Winter: the nativity scenes of the lake villages
At Christmas the lake villages traditionally set up nativity scenes: they appear in courtyards, under porticoes, along the old mule tracks. Tremezzina has a dedicated route that links them, and in Mezzegra you can visit the Casa dei Presepi, the house of the nativity scenes.
It is the simplest way to see the lake out of season: little walking, close to the houses, and a real sense of how the villages live when the visitors are gone. For exact opening dates it is always worth checking the Comune di Tremezzina channels.
