The middle of the lake is the part of Lake Como from which you can reach everything else. Staying here means having the famous sights close without sleeping inside them.
Where we are
We are in Mezzegra, part of Tremezzina, on the western shore. It is a village setting: narrow streets, houses lived in all year round and no night-time traffic under the windows.
Villa del Balbianello and Villa Carlotta, two of the most photographed places on the lake, are minutes away, as is the Greenway that links the villages along the shore.
You can walk to what you need
Bakery 670 metres, shop 736, pharmacy 1352, Lenno ferry landing 952. These are real walking distances, calculated on OpenStreetMap data rather than estimated.
It means bread, groceries and the boat are all within walking reach, without moving the car every time.
Bellagio and Varenna without the crush
From the Lenno or Tremezzo landings the boat takes you to Bellagio, Varenna and Menaggio. You visit at the best hours and come back to somewhere quiet.
That is the difference between spending the day in a tourist centre and spending a few hours there: you see the same thing, but you sleep in a village.
